National Puppy Day History
National Puppy Day is held on March 23, every year with the hopes of improving the lives of puppies everywhere. National Puppy Day was founded in 2006 by pet lifestyle expert, animal behaviourist and author Colleen Paige. Paige is also the creator of various pet-related holidays such as Cat Day and National Dog Day. Majorly celebrated in the United States of America, over the time, this day has actually become an international celebration and has trended on social media. People worldwide shares photos of their puppies on social media.
National Puppy Day Facts and Significance
As per reports, there are nearly 600 million dogs including strays throughout the world. National Puppy Day is also celebrated to save the orphaned puppies across the globe and also educate people about puppy mills. Puppy Mills are places where dogs are kept and bred for the purpose of later selling them. Many of them are operated under extremely inhumane conditions. The dogs are often treated as breeding machines and if the dogs are unable to produce any more puppies, then they are either euthanized or dumped on the streets. Yes, the incidents are horrific! And you can celebrate Puppy Day by adopting a little furry from your local shelter, you can even spend some time with the stray dogs around.
Twitterati has started their day by uploading pictures of their cute puppies along with the hashtag which is on trend to mark this day. They are adorable!
