National Panchayati Raj Day 2024 will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 24. The theme for this year's observance has not been announced yet. However, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj is organising a National Colloquium on “Governance at the Grassroots after Three Decades of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment” on Wednesday at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, in observance of National Panchayati Raj Day.

As per historical records, Panchayati Raj was constitutionalised through the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act of 1993. The bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on December 22, 1992 and by Raj Sabha on December 23, 1992. Later, the bill was approved by 17 state assemblies and received the assent of the President on 23 April 1993. This Act became effective on April 24, 1993.
