Nabajouban Darshan, also known as Netra Utsav, is a special ritual held in the 12th-century shrine, Jagannath Temple at Puri, Odisha. This day is celebrated at the end of the 15-day Anabasar after the Snana Yatra. However, this year, no Nabajouban Darshan will be held, and entry into the Puri Srimandir will be restricted as per the notice by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA). This step has been taken due to the storage of time as Nabajouban Darshan, Netra Utsav, and Rath Yatra fall on the same day, July 7. Generally, the darshan is restricted during the hours of special rituals undertaken by Puri Srimandir. However, you can definitely celebrate Nabajouban Darshan 2024 by sending devotional greetings, wishes, Lord Jagannath wallpapers, and HD images through social media to your loved ones. This year, Rath Yatra, Nabajouban Darshan, and Netra Utsav fell on the same day, which is a rare convergence which was last witnessed in 1971 and 1909. According to Jagannath culture pandits, Nabajouban Darshan refers to the youthful reappearance of deities who have kept themselves confined to ‘Anasara Gruha’ or a quarantine room after Snana Purnima. As Nabajouban Darshan is falling on the same day as Rath Yatra, no devotees will be allowed to enter the temple. Devotees can have a darshan of the deities at the Lion’s Gate (Singha Dwar) when they come out of the sanctum sanctorum in ‘pahandi.’
