Mount Mary Fair Mass Timings
The morning masses on September 8 are scheduled to be held at 5:30 AM, 6:30 AM, 7:30 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:30 AM and 10:30 AM. The main feast mass, however, will be held at 11:30 AM. The last mass during the Mount Mary fair will be held at 12:30 PM. It is important to note that there will be no evening masses.
Mount Mary Fair Significance
The Mount Mary Festival is a grand annual event that spans about a week. Also popularly known as Bandra Fair, the week-long event is centered around the historic Mount Mary Church in Bandra. People of various faiths attend the fair. As per historical records, the Bandra Fair is estimated around 300 years old.
According to legend, the celebration began when a statue of St Mary was discovered floating in the Arabian Sea between 1700 and 1760, which a Koli Christian fisherman had already dreamt about earlier. Monti Fest celebrated by Goans, Karwaris & Mangaloreans is similar to the Bandra Fest and coincides with the Nativity.
