The Mid-Autumn Festival has a history of over 3,000 years. The Chusoak was a royal sacrificial ceremony associated with moon worshipping and agricultural activities. To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, people worshipped the moon to give thanks for the harvest and to encourage the "harvest-giving light" to return in the coming year. 

People send wishes to their near and dear ones by saying "Chuseok jal bonaeseyo," which translates to Happy Thanksgiving in English. The Chuseok wishes can also be conveyed by saying "jeulgeoun hangawi doeseyo," which means have a Happy Hangwai. Many people also wish by saying "jeulgeopgo pungseonghan hangawi doeseyo" which means "Have a happy and prosperous Hangwai."
