Washington, May 27: The United States of America observes Memorial Day on May 27 to honour the servicemen and servicewomen who sacrificed their lives in the line of military duty. Search engine giant Google marked Memorial Day with a special button on its homepage that will play the "Taps" bugle call and folded American flag. Google also shared a post on Memorial Day written by Nick Ralston a Program Manager, Google Veterans Network Lead, and former Marine Major.

On Memorial Day, US citizens pay their tributes to members of the US military force who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. People visit cemeteries and memorials remember martyrs and offer their respects. On Memorial Day, Google homepage is updated with a light grey version of the company’s logo. "People often confuse Memorial Day as another Veterans Day. But that’s the point: Remembrance," Nick Ralston wrote.

Google Doodle marks Memorial Day:

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day. The observance began in the Civil War days. In 1970, it became a federal holiday. The Civil War in the United States began in 1861 and went on till 1865. It was among the deadliest wars that were fought on the American soil with over millions of soldiers killed.
