The day marks the start of a 41-day spiritual preparation period for the pilgrimage to Sabarimala, the famous hill shrine dedicated to Lord Ayyappa. The period typically begins in mid-November and ends in late December, aligning with the Vrischikam month of the Malayalam calendar.
