Braving early morning winter chill, devotees in North India bathed in sacred rivers and ponds and famous ghats and offered prayers by visiting the temples. To take a bath on the early morning of Makar Sankranti is considered a secret act which dispels one’s sins, bringing good fortune, good health to the person. Like every year, security forces have been allotted to keep a hawk-eye vigil to maintain law and order and ward off any attack on religious congregations.
