On this day, devotees wake up early and take a holy bath, donning clean and new clothes. They visit Shiva temples to offer prayers and perform special rituals, including Abhishekam (ritualistic bathing of the Shiva Linga) with water, milk, and honey. They also sing Mahesha Vandana on this day, and Maha Aarti of Lord Mahesha is also performed in Shiva temples to mark the occasion.
