Magha Navratri Rituals and Celebrations

The Puja Vidhi during Magha Navratri is the same as it is during any other Navratri. Devotees performing the Navratri fast during the Gupt Navratri worship the goddess both during the day and at night. All the forms of the goddess are worshipped on different days of Magha Navratri. On the ninth day, worshippers fast until evening and then visit their daughters to bless them with good health. Many Hindus consider this Navratri a test of their faith.

An idol of Maa Durga is placed on the first day, also known as Ghatasthapana. Devotees place the idol on a red cloth and offer colourful flowers, rice, dhoop, Chunri, bindi, bangles, and incense sticks. They also recite the ‘Durga Mantra’ 108 times during this Navratri. This ritual lasts for nine days, from Pratipda to Navami. People follow strict fasts where they can only eat one meal after finishing puja rituals. Akhand Jyot is lit during this time, with prayers to all the forms of Goddess Durga.
