Mabon is a pagan harvest festival which celebrates the September Autumnal Equinox every year. It falls in the middle of the harvest cycle, when both days and night are of equal duration. Also known as Harvest Home, the festival encourages you to reap what you sow. It is believed to be a time to give thanks to Mother Earth for the riches and fullness. Mabon 2019 will begin on September 21 (Saturday) and end on September 29 (Sunday).
The festival is named after the God of Welsh mythology called Mabon who is the child of Light and the son of the Earth Mother Goddess, Modron. Mabon is believed to be a time of the Mysteries when spirits are worshipped. It is also a time of preparing for Samhain, the bigger pagan festival that begins winter. Mabon symbolises second harvest, mysteries, equality and balance. Spring Equinox 2019 Pictures: Beautiful Blooms Around The World Welcome The Change of Seasons.
It is considered to be a time of balance when people keep away from their busy lives and find time to relax and enjoy the fruits of their harvest. People prefer to stay away from the hustle and bustle of their lives, and spent quality time with their families. According to some Wiccan rituals for Mabon, people build an altar and keep harvest fruits and vegetables as an offering to the Goddess. They share food, offer apples to the goddess and count their blessings in life.
As apples are harvested during this time, the fruit is offered in plenty. People meditate on balance to ensure they spend quality time with their family just as they do at work. People also pray for peace, stability and good climate. We wish a great Mabon and happy get-togethers!
