Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, previously known as Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, Lalbaug was founded in 1934 at Lalbaug Market. The 86-year-old idol is believed to be Navsacha Ganpati (नवसाचा गणपती). It means the "one who fulfills all wishes". For almost nine decades, it has been managed by the Kambli family who had begun designing the idol back in 1935. The design is now patent protected by their family. Speaking of Lalbaugcha Raja unique decoration, it is inspired by fishermen’s attire. It was so because, the fishermen and traders had first established the Mandal. Every year nearly 1.5 million people visit this Ganesh Pandal daily during the 10-day Ganesha festival for Mukh Darshan (view the deity’s face) and Charan Sparsh (touch Ganpati idol’s feet). Navsachi queue is for those who want to pay their respect to Ganpati Bappa for the fulfilment of wishes.
