Mumbai, September 6: The festival of Ganesh Chatuthi is celebrated in India with great fanfare and gaiety. The first look of the famed Lalbaugcha Raja was unveiled on August 31. Lal Bagcha Raja, which means the King of Lalbaug is the most famous Sarvajanik Ganapati kept at Lalbaug, a prominent locality in Mumbai. In 2019, the Lalbaugcha Raja Ganpati entered 85 years. The Mukh Darshan (face view of the deity) will be available all throughout the day for 24 hours. The Mukh darshan of Lal Bagcha Raja will be closed on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, Midnight. Ganesh Chaturthi 2019 celebrations began on  September 2, 2019 and will conclude on September 12, on the day of Anant Chaturdashi. The massive Ganesh idol at Lalbaug is kept for public display for 11 days. Devotees throng in large numbers to take blessings of the Lord. Thereafter, the idol is immersed in the Arabian sea at Girgaum Chowpatty on the auspicious day of Anant Chaturdashi, which falls on September 12 this year.

In 2019, the famous Lal Bagcha Raja Ganesh has been sculpted traditionally by Santosh Kamble. The idol is accompanied by a beautiful installation by artist Nitin Desai, who dedicated his artwork to India's latest space mission Chandrayaan 2. During the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, the whole atmosphere is full of Bappa chants.

The celebration at the most famous Lalbaugcha Raja has been taking place since 1934.  Lalbaugcha Raja is the popular Ganesh idol of the 'Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal' in Mumbai. The mandal, formerly known as 'Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, Lalbaug' was founded in 1934 at Lalbaug Market.
