The name of the day, Ketikoti means ‘the chain is cut’ or ‘the chain is broken’ in Sranan Tongo, the Creole language spoken in Suriname. It is also known as Manspasi Dei or Prisiri Manspasi, meaning ‘Emancipation’ or Kettingsnijden which means chain cutting.
