The season of festivities is upon us. Now that we are done with Navratri, people wait for Karva Chauth also spelt as Karwa Chauth. This Indian love festival is dedicated to the married couples and the unwavering trust between husband and wife. 2020 will see the festival celebrated on November 4 this year. On the Chaturthi of the Krishna Paksha of Kartik month i.e. Karvachauth, women devote their day to fasting for their husbands to wish for their long life and good health. Some even wish to have the same husband for the next birth as well. Karva chauth can be defined as 'Karva' i.e. pottery and 'Chauth' i.e. the beloved date Chaturthi of the first revered Ganesha. It is considered extremely auspicious to keep fast without even water while placing a karva. On this day after prayers, Arghya is offered to the moon at night and the husband finally feeds the wife. On this day, women dress up and follow the complete 16-step beauty routine called solah sharingar, an important part of which is amazing mehendi.
Auspicious time of Karva Chauth Puja
On 4th November, the Chaturthi Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month is starting on 03 o'clock 24 minutes in the morning and end on November 5 at 5.14 pm. On November 4, the auspicious time of worship of Karva Chauth is from 03: 45 in the evening to 05: 06. During this, you must complete the karva worship. The total time is said to be 13 hours and 37 minutes in hand for fasting and the fasting of Karva Chauth must ideally start from 06.35 am in the morning to 08.12 in the night until the moonrise.
Moonrise time on Karva Chauth
The moon is at the centre of Karwa Chauth so obviously, it is important to know the moonrise timing on the day. The fasting women must drink water on that day only when their partner offer them after the moonrise moon. On November 4, moonrise timing is said to be 08.12 in the night. However, it may differ from place to place.
Significance of Karva Chauth
There is an incident mentioned in the Mahabharata according to which Draupadi had also observed the holy fast of Karva Chauth as per Lord Shri Krishna's suggestion to overcome the crisis faced by the Pandavas. Only after that, it is said that the Pandavas won the battle.
On this special day women worship Chandradev aka the moon and pray for their husbands. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, it will be tricky to see how the Karwa passing ceremony will take place. It is important that get-togethers are avoided as much as possible to curb the spread of COVID-19.
