History of Karwa Chauth
The festival of Karwa Chauth revolves around the story of Queen Veeravati. She was married off at a young age. She was observing the Karwa Chauth fast at her parents' home. Being the only sister amongst her 7 brothers, she was the most loved among them. While she was following a strict fast for her husband, her brothers could not see her hungry and feel thirsty. In order to break her fast, they showed her an artificial moon. Veeravati was unaware and broke her fast after seeing the artificial moon created by her brothers. The minute Veeravati broke her fast and had the first morsel, she got the news that her husband passed away.
Veeravati could not bear with the pain and kept crying all night. A Goddess then appeared in front of her and asked her why she was weeping. She told her to observe the fast again but with dedication and devotion. Veeravati once again observed a strict fast and seeing her dedication, the God Yama brought her husband back to life.
