Kajari Teej is celebrated 15 days after the Hariyali Teej. It is observed on the Tritiya day of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada as per the North Indian calendar. Kajari Teej comes three days after the day of Raksha Bandhan, so Kajari Teej 2019 will be marked on August 18 this year.

Kajari Teej History and Significance 

According to mythological references, Kajari Teej is the day when Goddess Parvati observed a strict fast for her marital and divine satisfaction with Lord Shiva. She performed a strict fast for over 108 years and seeing her dedication, Lord Shiva was pleased. He accepted a divine union with her. On the day of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month, it was a day of the holy union of Shiva and Parvati. Kajari Teej is celebrated by unmarried girls and women. It is considered auspicious for married women to keep a fast and pray for his long life. Women worship Goddess Parvati on this day and seek her blessings. This celebration is observed to respect the husband-wife bond and strengthen it.

Kajari Teej Celebration

Women keep a Kajari Teej Vrat and then end the fast by eating a sattu (sweet made of chana dal) or fruits. The celebrations are much like the popular fast of Karva Chauth. Women observe the moon before leaving the fast. Married women keep a fast for the longevity of the husband, while unmarried girls observe fast to get a good husband. In some parts of the country, women also worship the holy neem tree. There are traditional songs that are sung on this day along with dances.
