According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Krishna is the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu.  He was born to Devaki and Vasudeva in a prison. Krisha's parents were captured and put in jail by his uncle King Kansa as it was prophesied that Devaki's child would kill him. However, Krishna escaped the clutches of his cruel uncle and was brought in Vridhavan as the son of Yashoda and Nanda. The birth of Lord Krishna is celebrated as Krishna Janmashtami.
