Janmashtami, the day Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Lost Vishnu took birth is celebrated with a lot of love and enthusiasm. While some people don't like sweets, some just wait for Janmashtami to gorge on sweets guilt-free. For all the people with a sweet tooth, here's a recipe of Doda Burfi, a Punjabi rich delicacy that includes lots of dry fruits and milk. Are you slurping already? Ingredients

Milk 4 cup
Heavy cream 1-1/2 cup
Sugar 2 cup
Fine crack wheat (dahlia)  3 tablespoon
Clarified butter (ghee) 1 tablespoon
Crushed cashews Nuts (kaju) 1 cup
Crushed almonds (badam) 1 cup
Cocoa powder 2 teaspoons
Sliced pistachios for garnishing 2 tablespoons

In a small pan, stir-fry cracks wheat with butter over medium heat, till it turns brown in colour. Set aside. In a heavy bottom pan over medium high heat boil the milk, and heavy cream, together.Method

  1. Let it boil till milk begins to thicken for about 40 minutes, stir occasionally. Add crack wheat and sugar mix well and keep cooking for about 20 more minutes and stirring occasionally.
  2. Add cocoa powder mix well, add cashews and almonds stir continuously until milk has become like soft dough and Burfi start leaving the sides of the pan and also Burfi has started leaving the butter. This should take about 15minutes.
  3. Transfer the Doda to 12-inch plate shaping it into square or rectangle in about ½ inch thick. While Doda is still warm cut them in about one-inch square.
  4. Sprinkle the pistachios over Doda and lightly press them.
