The entire world is celebrating the festival of Janmashtami today to mark the birth of Hindu God Lord Krishna, who is the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu on earth. Krishna believed to have born on the eighth day of the holy month, Shravana, as per the Hindu Lunar calendar. According to Hindu Mythology, Lord Krishna, was born roughly 5000 years back. He was the eighth son of Devaki and Vasudeva. However, Krishna grew up in Gokul by Nanda and Yashoda.
Lord Krishna is the most popular deity in Hindu mythology. There are 108 names of Krishna with most popular ones being Kanha, Kanhaiya, Govinda, Vasudeva, Bal Gopal, Kisna. Cities like Mathura, Gokul, and Vrindavan are known for their Janmashtami celebrations.
Temples all across the country are decorated, and various stages of Krishna’s life are presented through drama enactments. The Janmashtami celebrations at the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is being celebrated with great fervour.

Meanwhile, the two-day celebration at ISKCON temple situated in Bangaluru will culminate today. The arrangements for celebrating the festival began almost weeks back. The temple hall is decorated with flowers and festoons. On Janmashtami, Lord Krishna will be offered 108 different food items. Food will also be served to devotees.
ISKCON Temple situated in Juhu is one of Mumbai's most popular temples. Idols of Radha and Krishna are decorated with beautiful dresses. Maha-Bhog will be offered to the deity.
Janmashtami is not just a festival to celebrate, but also an important occasion to revisit the timeless lessons given by Lord Krishna in Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, which is a treasure trove of knowledge and wisdom. The Bhagavad Gita is a 700 verse Hindu scripture that is part of the Indian epic Mahabharata.
