Ranchi, June 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead a gathering observing International Yoga Day, 2019 today in Ranchi. Apart from PM Narendra Modi, union ministers and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah will participate in International Yoga Day events across the country. 'Yoga with the Gurus' will be held on the sprawling North Lawn in the United Nations Headquarters followed by a panel discussion.
PM Narendra Modi arrived in Ranchi Thursday evening. He was received by the Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das and Governor Draupdui Murmu. The Prime Minister will attend the International Yoga Day programme at Prabhat Tara ground. Around 30,000 people are expected to participate in the event. "All preparations have been done for the programme. We have made bus arrangements to ferry the participants to the ground. The buses will ply from 1 am to 3 am all participants will have to reach to the ground by 4 am," Rai Mahipat Rey, Ranchi Deputy Commissioner, told the media. According to Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari, senior BJP leaders and Union ministers will take part in 40 big events on International Yoga Day. Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir will attend a yoga session at the Yamuna Sports Complex in Shahdara. Other Union ministers who would be attending International Yoga Day events in Delhi are Ravi Shankar Prasad (Hauz Khas), Piyush Goyal (Lodhi Garden), Harsh Vardhan (Kudesia Garden, Civil Lines), Smriti Irani (Dada Dev Ground, Raj Nagar), Thawar Chand Gehlot (Sangam Vihar), Dharmendra Pradhan (Talkatora Garden), Ramesh Pokhriyal (Burari), Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi (Ramjas Sports Ground, Patel Nagar) and Arjun Munda (Lado Sarai), among others. Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. In 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga. Ahead of the International Yoga Day, the UN headquarters was lit up with postures of 'Surya Namaskar' and the message of 'Yoga for Climate Action' on Wednesday. India's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin also attended a special ceremony.
A panel discussion on the theme of 'Yoga for Climate Action' will be held at the UN headquarters today. The Indian mission will organise several events over the course of the next two days to mark the 5th International Yoga Day.
