International Women’s Day is around the corner and like every year, it will be observed on March 8 to celebrate and honour women who holds a strong position in every domain of life. It is a day to rejoice that girls are amazing! And to mark this day of inspiration, Google is honouring women from every corner in its own unique way. Google Play is highlighting games and applications prepared by women developers on its mobile platform, starting this week. The initiative is to mark the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8, to celebrate women’s achievements around the globe.

The Play Store shine with categories that involve women behind various applications, fun games developed by them and you can even play games with strong female characters—sounds great! Inkle's 80 days, Temple Gates Game’s Race for the Galaxy, State of Play’s Kami 2 are some exciting games that is featured in the application. And it is completely fine, if you are not a tech-savvy as Google Play Store has incredible collections of Books, movies and TV shows with women leads too.

It has partnered with YouTube creators to put together short biopics on how they started gaming. Each of the games and applications holds a section about the mind who developed them. The International Women’s Day celebration is the latest effort by Google Play to highlight variety in the app store.

The idea is not completely new as last year in December, Google has come up with a similar initiative Change the Game. This program featured games by women’s developers and staring woman protagonists.

We must say, this is indeed an impressive way to raise the visibility of women in making and playing games. So, it’s time to reflect the progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by women across the world. And what better way it can be than honouring their achievements.
