Jan Optel was a student of the Medical Faculty of the Charles University in Prague who was shot at an anti-Nazi demonstration that he participated in, on Czechoslovak Independence Day in 1939. He died two weeks later, and his funeral procession also turned into anti-Nazi demonstrations.
