International Jazz Day is observed on April 30 annually to raise awareness of jazz internationally and to spread the use of it as a tool to bring people together. The day aims to spread the virtues of jazz as a tool for peace, unity, dialogue and enhanced cooperation among people. The day is "to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe." Observation of the day began following the suggestion by jazz pianist and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock. It is chaired by Hancock and the UNESCO Director-General. Talking about jazz day UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay said, "This is a day to honour jazz and its enduring legacy, as well as to recognize the power of this music to bring people together."

Various jam sessions, workshops, conferences, and community programs are held on this day. You can check regions-wise events on jazzday.com. UNESCO relates the celebration of International Jazz Day to the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, maintaining that Jazz Day. The day will be celebrated in more than 200 countries around the world. Australia's International Jazz Day celebrations will conclude with the 'Generations in Jazz' youth festival in Mount Gambier, South Australia, led by James Morrison and Kurt Elling during the first weekend of May. With the participation of more than 6,000 high school student musicians, it will the largest youth jazz festival in the world. The day will also witness jazz-themed films, lectures, book readings, theatre performances, master classes, and radio and television broadcasts.

In Mumbai, International Jazz Day celebrations will be held at Tata theatres. The eighth edition of the event will be curated by the NCPA and Louiz Banks. After successfully hosting the event for seven years, an array of artists will be present at the event this year too. The program which will be spread over a span of three hours will include jazz standards to jazz fusion. NCPA along with Louiz Banks is bringing the event at Tata Theatre in Mumbai.
