The world celebrates International Yoga Day today. A day dedicated to yoga, which is an extremely healthy and spiritual lifestyle practice performed across the world. The ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice has been originated in India and became a part of a better lifestyle. The word "yoga" or "yog" comes from Sanskrit and means "to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness." The practice has now become extremely popular and has also evolved with time. United Nation recognising the umpteen benefits of yoga dedicated the June 21 as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131. International Day of Yoga 2019 Theme

While the theme of 2019 International Day of Yoga according to the UN is "Climate Action." India is observing the 2019 theme to be "Yoga for Heart." Union Minister Shripad Yesso Naik said the theme for this year's World Yoga Day is 'Yoga for Heart'. Naik, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH, said with the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the entire world is observing Yoga Day on June 21."Yoga has become an important aspect in the life of the people, which is an honourable achievement for the country that has given Yoga to the world," he told a press conference here, quoted by PTI. Naik said the prime minister will be present in the main event to be held at Prabhat Tara Maidan in Ranchi. The Union minister said the objective of the Centre and the state is to take the message of Yoga to every person and house.

Significance of International Day of Yoga

Keeping in mind the holistic health and well-being that yoga is associated with the day is observed. Health benefits of yoga on our overall body and mind is umpteen and hence yoga has been known to help curb diseases like diabetes, COPD diseases, arthritic pains and many other health issues. It has even shown wonders in helping curb obesity and is considered to be a valuable asset that has been treasured in our country since ancient times. The day observes to highlight its benefits and create awareness about this gem.
