International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers is an important day that is marked in memory of those who have lost their lives in the cause of peace, including military, police, and civilian personnel. As per the official UN website for International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, 3,900 military, police and civilian personnel have lost their lives in the service of peace as a result of acts of violence, accidents and disease since the first UN Peacekeeping mission was established in 1948.
