The festival date can vary every year. In 2019, Indira Ekadashi falls on September 25. However, the Ekadashi 2019 tithi begins at 4:42 pm on September 24, 2019, and the tithi will end the next day at 2:09 pm. Ekadashi Parana is one after sunrise on the next day of Ekadashi vrat. The fasting observed during Indira Ekadashi is considered auspicious for the devotees. The objective is to offer salvation to the forefathers or dead ancestors. Indira Ekadashi Vrat Vidhi and Parana Time

Parana means breaking the fast. Ekadashi Parana is observed after sunrise on the next day of Ekadashi Vrat. This year the Indira Ekadashi Parana falls on September 26 and the auspicious time for the religious offering is between 6:11 am to 8:26 am. It is believed that Parana should be done within the Dwadashi Tithi unless Dwadashi is over before sunrise. Not observing Parana with Dwadashi is considered as a sin. According to Drik Panchang, on Parana Day, Dwadashi end moment is 11:03 am.

One day before Indira Ekadashi, prayers and rituals are carried out in the memory of deceased ancestors. An idol of Lord Vishnu is worshipped where devotees offer tulsi leaves, flowers, fruits and other puja essentials. Vedic mantras, kirtans and bhajans are sung in praise of the Hindu lord.
