According to a legend, Hrianyakashyap was an ardent opponent of Lord Vishnu and never liked his son because he was a devotee of Lord Vishnu. He planned to murder his son with the help of his sister Holika who invited Prahlad to join her in the fire. Lord Brahma had gifted Holika a cloak to protect her from fire, and she used the shawl as a shield to protect herself. In contrast, Prahlad prayed to Lord Vishnu, who appeared and blew the shawl away from Holika, so she was burnt in the raging flames, and Lord Vishnu saved Prahlad.
