The festival of colours, Holi is just around the corner. Children have already started playing with water balloons, if not just splashing water on each other. Holi 2018 will be celebrated on 2nd and 3rd of March. The Rang Panchami, which marks the actual play of colours and water will be on March 3. While we all love a little of colour, if not too much, there is another popular thing Holi is associated with- Thandai. Thandai is a very delicious milk drink made especially during the festival. It has a mix of almonds and nuts, sometimes saffron strands and dried rose petals. Along with the Thandai, the Bhaang, which is an actual mix of crush cannabis is a drink people really look forward to on every Holi. The Bhang drinks just add on to the spirit of the celebrations.
Even within Thandai there are varieties, some having infused fruit flavour within. Just like we have many bright colours to choose to play Holi, the Thandai is also made in different colours, depending upon the ingredients used within. Let us look at some Thandai recipes.
Thandai: A basic Thandai is a concoction of milk, sugar and mixture of almonds, pistachio, cardamoms etc which make a refreshing drink. You can easily get this type at any big celebration of Holi.

Bhang Thandai: Many people confuse Thandai as Bhang but both of them are not the same. Bhaang is a mixture of cannabis leaves. So when it is mixed within the Thandai recipe, it becomes bhang. A Bhang infused Thandai is said to be a little intoxicating, so it is advised to be careful while you have it.

Usually, when you are out celebrating or attending any Holi parties, the food menu consists of spicy and savoury delicacies. Most of these things are really yummy but they are also fried. When you have a Thandai along with the oily stuff, you will yourself feel a relief within. Those who really love the spirit and vibe of the festival look forward to having the bhang. Bhang ki Lassi is also a commonly served drink during the festival. So get ready to enjoy the spirit, enthusiasm of the song and dance and of course splashing of colours for the festival. Have safe Holi guys!
