Ugadi or Yugadi is the Telugu and Kannada New Year celebrated with great fervor in the southern states. It typically falls in the months of March or April of the Gregorian calendar. This year, Ugadi will be celebrated on March 18. Ugadi falls a day after the first new moon and after the sun crosses the equator on the spring equinox. Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, the day is observed as Gudi Padwa with different celebrations. While the celebrations are going to be in full swing, we have compiled a list of Ugadi messages to send your friends and family. In Kannada, people greet each other on the day saying Yugadi Habbada Shubhaashayagalu which means 'Greetings for the festival of Yugadi' or Hosa varshada shubhashayagalu that means 'Greetings on the New Year'. People of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have been celebrating the beginning of a sixty-year cycle, known as Samvatsara which comes with a unique name every year.
