As Jews celebrate Hanukkah, world leaders have extended greetings to the community. United States President Donald Trump wished Jews on Sunday as Hanukkah celebrations began. In an official statement, Trump said, "Melania and I send our warmest greetings to our Jewish brothers and sisters in the United States, in Israel, and around the world celebrating Hanukkah." On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished the people of Israel health and prosperity. Wishing the country people, he tweeted, "My friend, PM @netanyahu, Happy Hanukkah to you and the people of Israel. May this special occasion further the spirit of brightness and happiness. May everybody be healthy and prosperous."
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also wished everyone celebrating marking the start of Hanukkah. In a statement, he said, "Hanukkah is a time to reflect on the profound resilience of the Jewish people and their triumph over exile, persecution, and unspeakable suffering. On behalf of all Canadians, Sophie and I wish all those celebrating a happy and blessed Hanukkah."
Hanukkah is observed for eight days on 25th of Kislev as per the Hebrew calendar. This year, the Hanukkah began on the evening of December 2 (Sunday) and will end on the evening of December 10 (Monday).
