Guru Granth Sahib's 'First Parkash Purab': Golden Temple Illuminated With Lights; Watch Video

A large number of devotees took part in the nagar kirtan held to celebrate the ‘first Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Granth Sahib’ (installation in Sri Harmandar Sahib in 1604) in Amritsar on Monday.

Amritsar, September 10: A large number of devotees took part in the nagar kirtan held to celebrate the ‘first Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Granth Sahib’ (installation in Sri Harmandar Sahib in 1604) in Amritsar on Monday. Panj Pyaras led thenagar kirtan which began from the historic Gurdwara Ramsar, where the Guru Granth Sahib was edited and reached the Golden Temple.

According to the report published in The Tribune, Assa Di Vaar was read first and then Bhai Sultan Singh offered the ardas, later Harmandar Sahib Head Granthi Giani Jagtar Singh read the hukamnama. Giani Jagtar Singh carried the Guru Granth Sahib on his head and placed it in palanquin which was taken to the Golden Temple. Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh was also present on the occasion.

'First Parkash Purab' Celebrations at Golden Temple:

School students and school bands took part also took part in the possession. On the way, langar and water stalls were installed. According to the report, special ‘Jalau’ (show of splendour) were displayed in the sanctum sanctorum of Akal Takht and Gurdwara Baba Atal Rai. The entire Golden Temple complex was illuminated with colourful lights. Fireworks were also displayed at night.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wished people on the occasion of the ‘first Parkash Purab’ of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. PM Mosi tweeted, “Greetings on the special occasion of the Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. We bow to the Guru Sahib and seek blessings for the peace, progress and prosperity of humankind. May the spirit of harmony, compassion and brotherhood always prevail in our society.”

Yesterday, Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh greeted the people Sunday on the eve of the ‘first Parkash Purab’. Captain Singh said, “Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji not only enlightens humanity on every aspect of life but also imbibes the spirit of oneness of God, harmony, love, peace and compassion amongst one and all.” The chief minister called upon the people to seek inspiration from the Guru Granth Sahib and the healing virtues it contains.
