Global Wind Day is observed on June 15 annually to increase awareness about wind energy and the power it withholds. WindEurope and Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) has been coming together to observe Global Wind Day every year. The day was first observed in Europe in 2007 and at later celebrated on a global level in 2009. On this day, various national wind energy associations and companies associated with wind energy production organise events in countries around the world. Wind energy is the form of energy caused due to differences in air pressure in our atmosphere.  Winds differ depending on an area's weather, primarily the uneven heating of the Earth by the sun.

More than 75 countries celebrate Global Wind Day by arranging different programs that focus on the power of wind and how it can be used to bring change in the world. The day tried to highlight how we do not realise how great a natural resource wind is. It talks about the demand for wind power and how it has been growing in the last decades. The global day also tries to highlight how wind energy creates jobs and supports locals and converts in the revenue. Around 250 events were held around the globe on Globe Wind Day. In 2018, WindEurope and GWEC had launched a global photo competition to capture the power of the wind.

Talking about wind energy, Giles Dickson, CEO of WindEurope said, "Onshore wind is now the cheapest form of new power generation in most of Europe, and offshore wind is not far behind with costs having fallen over 60% in 3 years. And it’s getting easier and cheaper to integrate wind power in the energy system. As a local resource, wind also means much less money spent on fossil fuel imports. And of course it means less CO2 – and cleaner air – in our cities." On Global Wind Day, people visit onshore and offshore wind farms and talk about wind energy. Various wind parades and workshops are organised. Different cities educate their citizens on the functions of a wind turbine.
