Although there no specific prayers one does before the visarjan but family members come together to do the last aarti at home before taking the Ganpati idol for the immersion. The visarjan ritual begins with the Uttarang puja which involves offering five items, namely deep (oil lamp), pushp (flowers), dhoop (incense), gandh (fragrance) and naivedya (food) to Ganpati. When it is time for the visarjan, the murti or idol is slightly moved forward before lifting the idol from the place. One family member then comes forward and picks up the idol and everyone chants Ganpati Bappa Morya in one voice. The prasad offered to the Lord is then distributed among everyone.
