Mumbai, September 1: On the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi, Mumbai police on Sunday issued a traffic advisory regarding the closure of roads and diversion during the festive season. In the view of the Ganesh Utsav, several roads in the maximum city will remain closed from 6 am on September 2 till midnight of September 12. Mumbai police also deployed more than 14,000 personnel across the city to avoid any untoward incident. According to the advisory, south-bound traffic of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar road from its junction at Bharat Mata to Bawla Compound will be closed till September 12. To avoid traffic jams, commuters can take a right turn at Bharat Mata junction further from Currey Road bridge to Babasaheb Ambedkar Road via NM Joshi road, Aurthur Road and S-Bridge Road. Meanwhile, all vehicular traffic from Sardar Hotel Junction of Babasaheb Ambedkar Road to SV Chowk will be closed. Similarly north-bound traffic coming from Arthur Road Naka towards Gas Company junction via Chinckpokli Bridge will be closed. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated every year, marking the birth of Lord Ganesha. This year, Ganeshotsav will begin from September 2, and the festivities will continue till September 12. Following 10 days of rituals, the idol is immersed in water. The festival begins on Shukla Chaturthi which is the fourth day of the waxing moon period and ends on the 14th day of the waxing moon period known as Anant Chaturdashi. Public Ganpati pandals are set up across the state. Devotees throng these pandals in large numbers to have a glimpse of Lord Ganesh.
