The festivity is also known as Ganeshotsav and Vinayaka Chaturthi and is celebrated with great fervour in Maharashtra. Ganesh Chaturthi celebration follows a set of ritual that includes buying Lord Ganesha's idol and bringing him home, offering prayers, celebrating his presence for a certain number of days and then immersing the idol into water. The festival requires a certain amount of dedication and effort. On Ganesh Chaturthi, one has to be very careful with the rituals. List of Dos For Ganesh Chaturthi

  • If you are bringing Ganesha home, it advised getting an idol that represents Ganesha in sitting position. It is said to bring positive energy in the house.
  • You must get a Ganpati idol with his trunk tilted towards his left.
  • Make sure that a mouse (Ganesha's vahan) and modak (Ganpati's favourite sweet) should be a part of the statue.
  • Keep only one Ganpati idol at home and take good care of it until the time it is immersed. Offer prayers daily.
  • The best place to keep the idol in the house is the northeast corner of the house.

List of Don'ts For Ganesh Chaturthi

  • Refrain from non-veg, tamasic food at home.
  • The Pooja room should never look dull at least a lamp should always be lit in the room.
  • Don't forget the aartis twice a day- at dawn and dusk.
  • No foul language around Ganesha's idol.
  • No negative energy around him.
