Eid al-Fitr is based on moon sighting as per the Islamic lunar calendar. On the day of Eid, Muslims gather at mosques to perform Eid Prayer and greet each other. Believers celebrate the day by visiting their friends, relatives, hostings feasts and sharing sweets. They dress in new clothes and meet their near and dear ones. Elders give children cash gifts called 'Eidi'. The occasion is also seen as a time of forgiveness and of thanksgiving to Allah for helping them to complete their fasting. People also engage in charitable activities and help the less fortunate ones.
