Washington DC, June 3: The Central Hilal Committees and Muslims of US, Canada, Russia, Turkey and European countries will make an attempt to sight the crescent hilal today. If the moon is sighted than Eid al-Fitr 2019 will be celebrated in these countries on June 4. The Hilal Committee, after its meeting today will finalise its decision on moon sighting. The Central Hilal Committee of USA, on June 1, issued advisory for the Muslims in the country to make a group effort to sight the moon on Monday, June 3, 2019, for the month of Shawwal 1440. As per the committee, this is an excellent opportunity for muslims to revive a Sunnah and take part in the blessed effort. The committee has requested to report to the local CHC Ulama on sighting the moon.

The Central Hilal Committee of Toronto and vicinity will hold a meeting today after Salat al maghrib on the 29th Ramadan to determine the sighting of crescent hilal for Shawwal 1440 Hijri. If the moon is sighted the muslims in the region will celebrate Eid al-Fitr tomorrow, The committee has urged Imams of various organisations to remain present in the meeting.
The crescent moon for commencement of the month of Ramadan 1440 Hijri was sighted on sunset of Sunday, May 5, 2019. All the muslims in the western countries initiated month long fasting and prayers after sighting the moon on Sunday.
Eid al-Fitr, also known as festival of breaking fast, is the biggest festival of muslims, and marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
