No one has yet reported a sighting of the moon in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Australia and New Zealand. Eid al-Adha or Bakrid is celebrated to commemorate the sacrifices made by Prophet Ibrahim, his noble wife Hager and their son Prophet Ismael.
Hilal Committees in different countries will take a final call on the sighting of the moon. Those who will see the moon will have to report their testimonies to the Hilal Committee.

The sighting of the moon will determine the date for Eid al-Adha or Eid-ul-Adha, also known as Bakrid, the second of two Islamic festivals. Eid al-Adha, the festival of sacrifice, is celebrated on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah month. If the moon is sighted this evening, Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on August 11. If the crescent remains invisible, Muslims in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Australia and New Zealand will celebrate Bakrid on August 12. Under the Islamic lunar calendar, a new month begins upon the sighting of a crescent moon on the 29th day of the ongoing month. Today is the 29th of Dhul Qadah in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Australia and New Zealand. If the moon is sighted today, Dhu al-Hijjah month will begin from August 2 and Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on August 11. If the moon remains unseen, Dhul Qadah month will complete 30 days. Hence, Dhu al-Hijjah month will begin from August 3 and Bakrid will be celebrated on August 12.
To celebrate Eid al-Adha, Muslims offer animal sacrifice and distribute its meat to the poor. They also undertake the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca during Dhu al-Hijjah month.
