Riyadh, August 1: The hilal committees in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman, Yemen, Palestine, Syria, Iraq and other Middle East nations are expected to issue an announcement post namaz-e-maghrib on the sighting of Dhul Hijjah new moon. If the crescent is spotted, the final Islamic month would commence and Eid al-Adha would be celebrated most parts of the world on August 11, 2019. Eid al Adha, also referred to Eid ul Zuha, Bakra Eid and Bakrid in the Indian subcontinent region, is one of the major festivals in the Islamic world. The festival is celebrated on the 10th date of Dhul Hijjah, the final month as per the lunar calendar followed by Muslims. In Saudi Arabia, five days of holiday have been declared in view of the festival. In neighbouring UAE, all public and private establishments will remain closed from 9th Dhul Hijjah to 12th Dhul Hijjah. Similarly, other Gulf countries have also announced their set of holidays.
Apart from the Middle East, attempts to sight the crescent is also being undertaken in Far-East and Down South nations. If the moon is sighted today, Eid will be celebrated on August 11 in Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, Brunei, Thailand and Singapore.
In India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and other parts of the subcontinent, attempts to sight the crescent will be made tomorrow, August 2. If the crescent is sighted, then Bakra Eid will be celebrated on August 12. If not, the festival would be observed on August 13.
