Eid al-Adha, also referred to as Eid ul Zuha or Bakra Eid, will be celebrated across the world in the second week of August. In Muslim-dominated nations, this is considered as the "big Eid" and is accompanied by a span of holidays announced by both public and private sector. The date of Eid al Adha prayer, however, is yet to be confirmed.

Eid al-Adha congregational prayers are held on the 10th date of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic calendar. In India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, attempt to sight the crescent of Dhul Hijjah will be made on the evening of August 2. If the moon is sighted, then August 3 will be the 1st date of Dhul Hijjah. If the moon remains unseen, then the 1st date will be observed on August 4.

Since Bakra Eid is observed on 10th date of Dhul Hijjah, the date this year could be either August 12 or August 13.

A rare possibility exists that India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka might view the crescent on either of the two dates -- August 2 or 3, rather than collectively sighting the new moon. In the past, several incidents have been noticed when the dates of Eid al-Adha observance have differed among the subcontinental nations.

Meanwhile, in the Middle East and other parts of the world's western hemisphere, the attempt to sight the Dhul Hijjah moon would be mad on August 1. If the crescent is sighted, the new Islamic month would begin from August 2. If not, the 1st day of Dhul Hijjah will be on August 3.

Therefore, Eid al-Adha 2019 date in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Iraq and Iran could either be August 11 or August 12.
