But a lot of people have now opted for an alternative to animal sacrifice. Some Muslims from Lucknow have decided to cut cakes this year instead of goats. These cakes have an image of a goat on them. A buyer at a bakery told ANI, "The custom of sacrificing an animal on Bakr-Eid is not right. I appeal to everyone to celebrate the festival by cutting a cake instead of an animal." Although it is not clear how many people are opting for the practice, it is a good measure. The practice of sacrificing the goat is observed as an equivalent to God's compassion towards Prophet Ibrahim. Another man in Lahore installed a water cooler outside his house instead of spending money on a goat and performing a sacrifice for Bakri Eid.
Yogi Adityanath, the CM of Uttar Pradesh had instructed the authorities that no aminal sacrifice would be conducted in a public place. In the year 2017, the Rashtriya Muslim Manch had also appealed to the Muslim community to do away with the practice of animal sacrifice. Raja Raees, the convenor had told the NDTV, "Muslims can cut a cake baked in the shape of a goat."
Muslims indulge in a big feast with elaborate mutton preparations and sweet dishes on this day. They visit mosques and offer prayers for the day seeking peace.
