New Delhi, Aug 1: Eid-al-Adha, which is popularly referred to as Bakra Eid in India, will be celebrated later in the month. Muslims are awaiting the dates of their second of the two most auspicious festivals in the year - the other being Eid al-Fitr which was celebrated in June.

When will Bakra Eid 2018 be celebrated in India, Saudi Arabia, Middle East and other parts of the world?
Bakra Eid is observed on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah - the final month of the Islamic calendar. On the day when this article is first published (August 1), the date as per the Islamic calendar is 19th of 'Dhul Qadah', which is the month preceding Dhul Hijjah.
On August 11 or 29th of Dhul Qadah, Muslims will attempt to sight the crescent moon which would mark the beginning of Dhul Hijjah. If the moon is sighted, Eid al-Adha will be celebrated 10 days later, ie. on August 21.
If the crescent remains unspotted, the month of Dhul Qadah will complete its 30th day on August 12. Eid al-Adha will then be celebrated 10 days later on August 22.
According to the Sharjah Centre for Astronomy & Space Sciences, based in the United Arab Emirates, Eid ul Adha will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 22, 2018.
A contrary prediction came from the Umm al-Qura Calendar of Saudi Arabia, which claimed that Eid al-Adha will be observed on Tuesday, August 21, 2018.
