Significance of Mahalaya Amavasya
The entire period of Pitru Paksha is dedicated to remembering the deceased and conducting Shrardh Puja on the tithi of their death to seek their moksha. However, if someone is unable to offer shradh on all the tithis of the deceased, they can offer their prayers on the date of Mahalaya Amavasya. The observance of Pitru Paksha Shraddh is conducted either in Kutup Muhurat and Rohina Muhurat or till Aparahna Kala gets over. Tarpan (तर्पण) is done at the end of the Shraddha.
