Mumbai/Chennai, November 19: On the occasion of Ekadashi, liquor shops will remain closed in Mumbai and parts of Maharashtra. The single-day ban on sale is enforced by the administration to respect the sentiments of Hindu believers who consider the day auspicious and may deem it derogatory or inappropriate if alcohol is openly purchased and consumed.
Similarly, the administration in Chennai has issued an order prohibiting the sale of alcohol on November 21 -- when Muslims will celebrate Eid Milad-un-Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). As per the order issued by the Chennai Collectorate, all Tasmac liquor shops, along with bars and fine dine lounges, will face penal action if they sell alcohol.
