Significance and celebrations

Dol Purnima is an auspicious occasion celebrated by people of the Hindu community with great fanfare. The first day of Dol is known as gondh. On this day, Lord Krishna becomes ready to visit Ghunucha's place (one of Krishna's wives). His followers make a bonfire in front of the kirtan-ghar and with the beat of Vaishnavite drums, the idol of Krishna is carried round the firework and then to the doul. The second day of Dol is known as Bhor-Dol, which is celebrated for just one day in the month of Chot and two or three days in the month of Phalgun. The third day of Dol is also spent in the same manner as that of the second day. The last and fourth day of the Doul festival is called Sueri.
