When Lord Brahma commanded Yamraj to keep better track of people’s action and activities before sending them to either hell or heaven, the latter said that it was reasonably not possible to keep a track of so many people who are born in 84,000 forms of life on planet earth. It was then when Lord Brahma sat in prayers for 1000 of years and that’s how Chitragupta came into being. Lord Chitragupta is said to be the 17th son of Lord Brahma and Goddess Saraswati.
