In 2019, the auspicious Hindu festival of Ganesh Chaturthi will begin on September 2. Ganpati Utsav begins with Shukla Chaturthi, which is the fourth day of the waxing moon period. The festival ends on Anant Chaturdashi, the 14th day of the waxing moon period.

The annual festival begins with Ganpati sthaapna on Day 1 and visarjan on Day 11. The processions of Ganpati sthaapna and visarjan are taken out with full fervour with people playing dhol nagadas, and dancing to the tunes.  Beautifully-decorated pandals are set up in several cities where people throng in large numbers each day. Huge Ganesh idols are worshipped in these pandals for a period of ten days. On the eleventh day, i.e. Anant Chaturdashi, the Ganesh idols are immersed in a water body.

As part of the Ganesh Utsav festivities, people send out invites to their friends and family to seek Lord Ganesha’s blessings.
