What is The Story And Significance of Children’s Day?
“The children of today will make the India of tomorrow. The way we bring them up will determine the future of the country,” said Jawaharlal Nehru, while speaking about children and their role in shaping India ahead.
Jawaharlal Nehru was fondly called as ‘Chacha Nehru’ by kids, whom he hailed as the architect and future of India. During his term as PM too, Jawaharlal Nehru had always stressed on the education of children.
It was after his death in 1964 that it was decided that Jawaharlal Nehru’s birth date, i.e., November 14, will be celebrated as Children’s Day every year. The United Nations has also declared November 20 to be observed as ‘Universal Children’s Day’.
On Children’s Day, schools and colleges across the length and breadth of the country organise programs, cultural events, skits, plays, and hold a number of competitions too. Children are gifted with sweets, books, stationery, clothes, and other gift items to make them feel special on what is supposed to be ‘their day’.
