Chhath Nahay Khay is the first day of the Chhath Puja festivities. Nahay Khay 2024 falls on Tuesday, November 5, whereas Kharna is the second day of the festivities. Kharna 2024 falls on Wednesday, November 6.

Nahay Khay and Kharna Significance

Nahay Khay is a day dedicated to purity and cleanliness. The word ‘Nahay’ literally translates to bath, and the term ‘Khay’ translates to eat. All those participating in the fast take a ceremonial dip in the water, ideally in the Ganges. The bath is believed to purify the person and prepare them for the upcoming observance. In addition, devotees consume only one simple meal during the day without salt or spices.

The second day of the Chhath Puja festivities is called Kharna. On this day, devotees fast without even consuming water from sunrise to sunset. They break their fast in the evening after sunset and make a ceremonial offering, which includes a sweet dish known as Kharna Prasad, to Lord Surya. This ritual is very significant as it sets the stage for the more intense fasting yet to come. Chhath Puja Nahay Khay Wishes and Greetings: WhatsApp Messages, Images, HD Wallpapers and SMS for the First Day of Chhath Mahaparv.
